Hello

I have this design on stand by for a while now but did not implement it because I was waiting to switch from BlogEngine.NET to Graffiti CMS. Today I spent a couple of minutes doing just that.

Not all of the features are finished so be patient and comprehensive.

Cheers

About my Kindle 2

Hi,

A couple of days ago a got myself, from Amazon.com, a brand new Kindle 2. First let me drop some curiosities to some people here in Portugal who might want to buy it.

Amazon has a great overall service. I made the purchase on a monday night and got it on thursday at 11am. The Kindle was sent using UPS service and I could track (almost) in real time where the package was and at what time it left/arrived at some place. With the tracking code you could check it using Amazon's own service or you could go to UPS site (they had a more detailed view of it).One VERY GOOD detail was that as part of the order Amazon charges a fee, 'Import Deposit Fee', that covers any tax or customs fees that might be charged for the Kindle. They also take care of releasing the product from the customs so you don't have to worry about anything, the Kindle will arrive at your place without any concern on your part. So people from Portugal, you can buy it without any problems.

Hi

Today I added a new feature on my MailHelper fluent class that allows List<string> or Dictionary<stringstring> as parameters in the Add method when adding new addresses.

Hers's a sample code:

Hi

For a long time projects that Ive worked on seem to have basic tasks that I had to replicate over and over. I didnt like that very much because it went against the DRY (Do not Repeat Yourself). So I started off by creating a generic class that did some basic stuff that I could port from one project to another. Some basic tasks that I had to do were:

  • Handling path string specially when concatenating strings (eg: validate if a slash exists at the end). I replicated many of the methods that already exists on the Path class
  • IO basic operations like: GetLastModifiedDate and GetFileContent... Very handy stuff if you do it all the time
  • Http web requests. These were in almost every project I was involved in. Theres also a Fluent API for building URLs.
  • Object serialization (XML to Object and Object to Xml)
  • Read appSettings and connectionstringSettings like: ConfigHelper.GetAppSetting("APP_SETTING_NAME");
  • Converting string/int to enums

Hi

I've installed the new realease of VMware 3.0 with Windows 7, and one of the things I wanted to test was the aero and aero peek features. For some reason it wasnt working :(. Here I'm posting the steps to get it working (it worked for me):

  1. With the virtual machine turned off, go to settings and under Display check Acelerate 3D Graphics
  2. Turn on your virtual machine, go to your pc properties (right-click on My Computer and select Properties).
  3. Click on Windows Experience Index and select the option Re-run the assessment.
  4. Restart your virtual machine.

That should do it.

Cheers

Hi to all,

Today I arrived. The flight wasn't as good as I tought it would be. I even had a couple a mini-bottles of wine but it just didn't cut it. I couldn't sleep well and the movies were all old (at least for me :D). Ok, past that I met my brother, did some route checking before leaving the airport (get tickets and stuff) and went home. Just drop the bags at his home, Shincoyassu (because I'm perfect when it comes to writng Japonese names... lol).

First we went to eat something at a nearby restaurant. Nothing new here since I was still sick from the trip... Bellow are some pictures taken from my camera of couple of places I've been today.

This is where they filmed that scene of 'The Fast and Furious - Tokyo Drift'. The place is called Shibuya

This is what you eat when drinking beer - Edamami.

This is one of a particular set of streets with many commerce in them. They are called Shotengay.

One thing I noticed were the masks. Many people wear them. My brother said that many of them use it because they are sick and they don't want to infect others but because of the (?)H9B9 (suine flu) many use it for precaution.

Ok, it's 3 .a.m and I have to get up early 'today'. See u guys later

UPDATED: Only 3G phones work here. My little 2G iPhone doesn't cut it... Shame on their technology :(

As most of you know tomorrow I'm heading to Japan for a 11 day vacation. At this time tomorrow I'll be on Japan Airways airplane straight to Tokyo, Narita airport. Because most of you wanted to go I've created this blog in order for you to virtually join me on the trip. Follow what I'll be doing and eating!

I'll try to update every day with info and mostly photos. You can leave comments to where I should/must go and even to what I´ve been doing.

I also have a twitter account that I'll be updating more often: http://twitter.com/acarrilho

Enjoy

Cheers
