How did a £72million player get to this point…
Nicolas Pepe, the ‘worst signing’ in Arsenal’s history, is off to Turkiye after all. He has agreed a deal with Trabzonspor.
Trabzonspor have announced the signing of Pepe. The deal is reportedly for one year with an option for a second year.
Pepe had been labeled as a ‘no-man’s land’ at Arsenal early on. His best performances in 2019 earned him a number of big clubs, and he joined the Gunners in a £72 million transfer. At the time, it was Arsenal’s highest transfer fee ever.
However, he never quite lived up to his price tag. He had a decent debut season, helping the club win the FA Cup, but it was downhill from there. He spent last season on loan at Nice, where he was plagued by injuries and never really made a name for himself. 스포츠토토
His return to Arsenal was no different. Finding a new team was realistic. Pepe wanted a club in Saudi Arabia, where he could be paid a lot of money, but a Saudi move was out of the question. The Saudi market was closed, and all that was left was Turkiye. He was originally linked with a move to Besiktas. He had reportedly passed his medical. However, Arsenal had the last word and even considered terminating his contract to get rid of him, but they wanted to recoup at least some of the transfer fee. French outlet RMC Sport reported that Arsenal wanted to recoup a transfer fee of between €4 million and €5 million. This is where Trabzonspor stepped in, and they were successful.
