All eyes will be on Genji as they continue their undefeated streak at the 2023 LCK Summer.
안전놀이터 League of Legends Champions Korea (CEO Oh Sang-heon, www.lolesports.com, “LCK”), the Korean professional league for League of Legends (LoL) esports, today announced that all eyes will be on Genji to see if they can continue their undefeated streak in Week 5 of the 2023 LCK Summer, taking place from Wednesday, July 5 to Sunday, July 9 at the LCK Arena at Roll Park in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Genji has yet to suffer a loss since the start of the Summer and is riding an eight-game winning streak. Facing mid-tier teams in Week 4, including OK Savings Bank Brion and Hanwha Life Esports, Genji swept both matches cleanly 2-0, ranking first in both wins and set losses.
Genji and T1’s eight-day matchup ‘all eyes on the prize’
In Week 5, Genji will face Nongshim Red Force on Thursday, April 6, and T1 on Saturday, April 8. Nongshim Red Force has lost seven games in a row since winning the first game of the first round. A win for Genji against Nongshim would clinch a sweep of the first round of the regular season for the first time since the second round of the 2022 Summer Regular Season.
The most important match for Genji to continue its winning streak is against T1 on August 8. In the playoffs last spring, Genji lost to T1 in the best-of-three series, but swept KT Rolster in the semifinals and met T1 again in the final to win the championship, beating them 3-1.
In May, Zenith met T1 in the second round of the bracket stage of the Mid-Season Invitational, an international event held in the United Kingdom, and lost 2 games to 3, but evened the score in the first round of the Summer after returning to Korea with a 2-1 set win.
It will be interesting to see if Genji, who has been picking up the pace since defeating T1, can continue to cruise in the second round by taking down their first opponent of the second round, T1. The matchup between the two teams has been named this week’s SatDay Showdown.
KT’s ’12-Set Win Streak’ Continues with Brion
As we enter the heatwave, KT Rolster has been on a hot streak, with temperatures rising. After winning 12 sets in a row, the team is closing in on the top spot, with the possibility of taking over the top spot if Genji slips up.
In Week 5, KT Rolster will face OK Savings Bank Brion back-to-back, as the team’s last match of Round 1 and first match of Round 2 are both at OK Savings Bank Brion.
KT Rolster leads the head-to-head series with OK Savings Bank Brion 9-2, winning all four meetings between Summer 2022 and Spring 2023. While recent form has given KT Rolster the edge, they can’t afford to let their guard down as OK Savings Bank Brion put on a stellar performance against the D.R.A.X. in their last match of Week 4.
